Assessment Limitations
Official Guide to Remote Visual Scope | Check My Electrics Standard
Check My Electrics™ delivers a remote visual electrical assessment based exclusively on digital photographs submitted by the client. This service does not involve physical on-site visits, electrical instrument testing, or physical removal of equipment covers. It does not replace a statutory Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).
1. What Is Included in the Visual Scope
Our qualified electrical assessors evaluate the following visual safety indicators visible within submitted photographs:
- Consumer Unit & Switchgear: Visual check of consumer unit enclosure condition, visible circuit breakers/RCDs/RCBOs, circuit identification labels, and visible earthing conductors.
- Service Intake & Bonding: Visual check of electrical intake position, meter enclosure, and visible gas/water equipotential bonding clamps.
- Fixtures & Accessories: Visual check of ceiling light fittings, wall switches, socket outlets, and fused connection units for visible thermal damage, cracking, or physical wear.
2. What Is Explicitly Excluded from the Scope
Due to the non-invasive, photo-based nature of this remote assessment, the following items are strictly excluded:
- No Calibrated Testing: No insulation resistance testing, earth fault loop impedance (Ze/Zs), RCD trip speed timing, or continuity testing.
- No Hidden / Concealed Defects: Cable routing behind plaster, under floorboards, inside ceiling voids, or within wall conduits cannot be visually verified.
- No Equipment Dismantling: Assessors do not open internal live compartments, remove socket faceplates, or unscrew consumer unit main covers.
3. When a Physical EICR Is Required
A full physical Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) by a registered electrician on site remains necessary whenever required by law or specific third-party regulations:
- Mandatory 5-year landlord compliance under The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations.
- Formal mortgage or building insurance requirements mandating hands-on instrument verification.
